READING
Part 1. Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the correct option that best fits each of the numbered blanks from 1 to 5. (1pt)
Light pollution is the existence of too much unwanted, artificial light in the environment. Too
much light pollution has (1) ___ effects on people. It upsets ecosystems, has bad health effects, and wastes
energy.
In upsetting ecosystems, light pollution poses a serious threat in particular to night wildlife,
having damaging impacts on plant and animal physiology. It can affect the migratory patterns of animals,
change competitive interactions of animals, and cause physiological harm. The rhythm of life as we know
it is controlled by the natural daily patterns of light and dark. (2) ___, the disruption to these patterns does
harm to ecological dynamics.
With respect to adverse health effects, many species, especially humans, are dependent on natural
body cycles, and the production of melatonin, (3) ___ are regulated by light and dark (e.g., day and night).
If humans are exposed to light while sleeping, melatonin production can be suppressed. This can lead to
sleep disorders and (4) ___ health problems such as increased headaches, worker fatigue, stress, some
forms of obesity due to lack of sleep and increased anxiety. Health effects are not only due to overillumination or excessive (5) ___ of light over time, but also improper spectral composition of light.
Question 1: A. negative
B. essential
C. positive
D. helpful
Question 2: A. Whereas
B. However
C. Conversely

Part 2. Mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct option that best fits
each of the numbered blanks from 6 to 10. (1pt)
Families can function well if everyone can communicate their needs and wants to communicate
with each other respectfully. (6)_______. Sometimes it can be better to wait (7)______ so that you can
more calmly communicate what is going on for you and (8)_______. You may not always get what you
want straight away and you might have to be patient and/ or learn the art of negotiation and compromise.
(9)_______is a great way to work things out so everyone comes out winning. For example, you might
agree to help with chores around the house so you can go to the movies. It's important to stick to your side
of the agreement - this builds trust and respect. Talking things over can be helpful, particularly if you are
worried about your family relationships. It's important (10)_______ who you feel is understanding and
supportive. This could be a parent, brother, sister, cousin, aunt, uncle, grandparent, or close family friend.
Question 6: A. This can be hard if you are feeling frustrated, angry, hurt or sad
B. Which can be hard if you are feeling frustrated, angry, hurt or sad

Part 3. Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer to
each of the questions from 11 to 15. (1pt)
Solar power is energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy. Solar energy
is the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source available, and the U.S. has some of the
richest solar resources in the world. Solar technologies can capture this energy for a variety of uses,
including generating electricity, providing light or a comfortable interior environment, and heating water
for domestic, commercial, or industrial use.
There are three main ways to capture solar energy: photovoltaics, solar heating & cooling, and
concentrating solar power. Photovoltaics generate electricity directly from sunlight via an electronic
process and can be used to power anything from small electronics such as calculators and road signs up to
homes and large commercial businesses. Solar heating & cooling (SHC) and concentrating solar power
(CSP) applications both use the heat generated by the sun to provide space or water heating in the case of
SHC systems, or to run traditional electricity-generating turbines in the case of CSP power plants.
Solar energy is a very flexible energy technology: it can be built as distributed generation (located
at or near the point of use) or as a central-station, utility-scale solar power plant (similar to traditional
power plants). Both of these method scan also store the energy they produce for distribution after the sun
sets, using cutting edge solar storage technologies. Solar exists within a complex and interrelated
electricity system in the U.S, working alongside other technologies like wind power to transition the U.S.
to a clean energy economy. All of these applications depend on supportive policy frameworks at the local,
state and federal level to ensure consumers and businesses have fair access to clean energy technologies
like solar.

A. scarce
B. limited
C. plentiful
D. insufficient
Question 13: According to paragraph 2, what is the main purpose of SHC systems?
A. Generating electricity
B. Running turbines
C. Providing water heating
D. Cooling large commercial businesses
Question 14: Which of the following is NOT a way to capture solar energy?
A. Photovoltaics
B. Solar heating & cooling
C. Concentrating solar power
D. wind turbines
Question 15: According to paragraph 3, what is the relationship between solar energy and wind power?
A. They are incompatible and cannot work together.
2- Mã 102
B. Solar energy is more efficient than wind power.
C. Solar energy and wind power work together in the U.S. electricity system.
D. Solar energy is dependent on wind power for its functioning.
