The loss of jobs and persistent unemployment in the industrial countries is due mainly to
changes in technology. It is thought to be misleading to blame job losses on the shift of corporations
from the industrial countries to the Third World.
The present technological developments have been compared to a Third Industrial Revolution.
The first, coming in the 19th century, was characterized by the steam engine and the use of coal. In the
1920s the second emerged with the use of oil and the electro dynamo. The third, and present one, is
driven by computers, biotechnology and information technology.
However, there can be seen weaknesses in the newest of industrial revolutions. The technology
is advancing so fast and productivity is rising so fast that we are left with a big problem. Because of
the loss in jobs, caused largely by this new technology, there will not be enough people with money to
buy all these products.
Technology has definitely enhanced our standard of living, even our quality of life. But as the
capacity to produce expands and the lack of purchasing power and consequent demand diminish, there
can be overproduction and recession, and what happens to our standard of living?
17. What is the main point the author is making?

B. The industrial countries have more unemployment than the Third World.

A. There will not be enough money around.
B. There won't be enough products for everyone to buy.
C. There will be too few people who can afford to buy things.
D. There will be too many machines in the factories.
20. Why does the author think that there won't be enough people to buy the products?
A. People will not be able to keep up with technology.
B. Many people will be unemployed.
C. There will be too many products.
D. Productivity will not be high enough.
21. What is the author's attitude to technology?
A. It has improved our quality of life.

You've probably heard the expression 'Laughter is the best medicine'. Well, scientists and
medical doctors now agree that laughter can help people deal with stress and anger. Research has also
shown that people who feel happy and relaxed are healthier and have better relationships. Laughter
yoga is a series of exercises which teaches you to laugh for no reason. You don't need to have a sense
of humour, or understand funny jokes. You just have to laugh. When you do laughter yoga in a group,
you laugh and do yoga breathing, so that you increase the amount of oxygen in your body. Soon the
laughter exercises turn into real laughter. After a laughter yoga class, you feel calm and relaxed, but
also happy and full of energy. Laughter yoga was developed by a medical doctor from India, Dr
Madan Kataria. He started the first laughter yoga classes in a park in Mumbai in 1995 with just five
people, and now there are over six thousand laughter clubs in sixty different countries.
Companies who have run laughter yoga workshops find that they have advantages for both employers

People commonly complain that they never have enough time to accomplish tasks. The hours
and minutes seem to slip away before many planned chores get done. According to time management
experts, the main reason for this is that most people fail to set priorities about what to do first. They get
tied down by trivial, time-consuming matters and never complete the important ones.
One simple solution often used by those at the top is to keep lists of tasks to be accomplished
daily. These lists order jobs from most essential to least essential and are checked regularly through the
day to access progress. Not only is this an effective way to manage time, but it also serves to give
individuals a much-deserved sense of satisfaction over their achievements. People who do not keep
lists often face the end of the work day with uncertainty over the significance of their
accomplishments, which over time can contribute to serious problems in mental and physical health.
