Ha Noi, the capital of Vietnam, is one of the most interesting destinations for
domestic and foreign tourists. Among many attractions are the craft villages.
There are about 1500 handicraft villages recognized in Viet Nam, and about 300
are traditional handicraft villages. The heartland of craft villages is the Red River
Delta, and particularly around Ha Noi. Ha Noi is home to more than 45 percent of
the nation's total number.
How were those craft villages-set up? Years ago, after harvest time,
Vietnamese villagers used natural materials, such as clay, bamboo, wood, and
some certain kinds of plants and leaves to make craft things for their family's
daily needs. Gradually, they made their handicrafts more and more perfect, and
then sold them to others around the village to get extra income. The ways to
make handicrafts have been passed down from generation to generation.
